Welcome to Camp Owaissa, an Adirondack Great Camp nestled among the trees overlooking majestic Lake Placid. Built at the turn of the century, Camp Owaissa is an original, cherished family retreat painstakingly maintained and cared for through the years.
The main camp starts with a spacious covered front porch (75' in length) overlooking the gardens and Lake Placid. From here, guests enter Camp Owaissa via the Great Room, complete with 16' vaulted beam ceiling, a large floor to ceiling hearthstone fireplace and a gracious stairway leading to a 24' gallery and the second floor.
The kitchen and pantry allow plenty of space for food preparation, cooking and serving. There is a full array of appliances including two in-wall ovens, an indoor gas grill and a microwave. The kitchen also hosts a sunny breakfast nook, which overlooks a sizeable flagstone terrace. The pantry is abundantly stocked with china, serving pieces, glassware and silverware. There is also a beamed formal dining room offering comfortable seating for eight or more guests. The laundry room and utility room can be found near the kitchen as well.
Camp Owaissa hosts two separate wings within the main camp which includes seven complete bedrooms and three full bathrooms. Two ground floor bedrooms, each about 11' x 18' and with ample closets are served by a central bathroom. Two similarly sized guest bedrooms and bathroom can be found on the second floor. The "master suite" is further enhanced by an enclosed sleeping porch facing the lake, bringing the bedroom total to seven. It is furnished with two additional twin beds, a dressing table and chairs for reading. The other bedrooms, which may be accessed directly or by a separate staircase, are located within the second floor "guest wing". It hosts three recently refurbished bedrooms and a full bathroom.
Returning to the grounds, one meanders down a scenic grassy path to a stunning flower garden. The garden, which is featured on the cover of Janet Loughry's "Gardens Adirondack Style" is cited as having one of the most spectacular arrays of perennials in the entire region.
Continuing on to the water's edge, guests will find a lovely boathouse with an upstairs gathering area, complete with wetbar, sleeping space and a bathroom. The lower level of the boathouse has four covered slips, a swimming dock, extensive water ski equipment, children's toys and an assortment of small watercrafts (ie. rowboats, kayaks, canoes and sailboats). All are available for guests use.
Additional features on the property include a large barbecue firepit and picnic site, popular for evening campfires! The paved driveway into Camp Owaissa is clearly designated and there is additional parking for overflow vehicles.
Camp Owaissa welcomes you and your family to the Adirondack region. Enjoy the timeless tradition of "summers on Lake Placid".
