Boat Launches on Mirror Lake

When you own lakefront real estate on Mirror Lake, the seasons are yours to enjoy. In summer, jump in the canoe or kayak on Tuesday nights and paddle over to Mid’s Park on Main Street to enjoy one of Lake Placid’s favorite events: Songs on Mirror Lake free concert series. Restaurants such as The Cottage even allow guests arriving by boat to dock, dine and paddle home as the sun sets.
In winter, Mirror Lake’s frozen surface plays host to pond hockey tournaments, after-work broomball games, dogsled rides, ice-skating on the Mirror Lake Skating Track, and cross-country skiing. Visitors and residents alike enjoy the 2.7-mile walking loop around the lake that includes downtown Lake Placid.
So, why is Mirror Lake so famous and Mirror Lake waterfront real estate so coveted? Well, for starters, the lake plays host every year to the 2.4-mile swim that makes up the grueling Lake Placid Ironman competition. As soon as the ice is out in the spring, the swimming lanes are anchored in place for Lake Placid Ironman training camps and the main event, which happens the third weekend in July and sees more than 2,000 competitors.
A favorite of every kid, parent, and grandparent is the Lake Placid Public Beach and playground. A wide sandy beach, long dock, and on-duty lifeguards make this an ideal place to bring the kids and let them play. Bathrooms and snacks are available at the Beach House, and you’re never more than a few steps from one of Lake Placid’s great restaurants.

- Kick back at the Lake Placid Public Beach – relax in the sand, swim in the water, or sit on the bench at the end of the pier. There are changing facilities, tennis courts, and a playground.
- Ski the face: Whiteface Mountain is only 20 minutes away in the town of Wilmington. As one of the Adirondack 46 High Peaks, Whiteface is accessible and worth a visit even when the snow melts.
- Stroll down Main Street for shopping, dining, and entertainment, or take a ride down Sentinel Road toward Cascade Road for more unique restaurants, bars, and breweries.
- Fun fact: The village of Lake Placid and Mirror Lake are focal points of the Lake Placid Marathon and Ironman endurance events, held every June and July, respectively.
